EXPECTATIONS OF CHOIR MEMBERS

In order to maintain the standards and professionalism of the choir, there is an expectation that all members will abide by some simple choir rules which are as follows:

ENTRY INTO THE ENSEMBLE

ENTRY to the Choir is by audition only.

ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTION

In an attempt to align with the mission of our ensemble, currently, there is no annual subscription/fee to be in this ensemble.

ATTENDANCE/PUNCTUALITY

Attendance is expected at all rehearsals and major performances. Please inform the Secretary of any unavoidable absence, preferably in advance. He can be contacted by email using camerata.baltimore@gmail.com or by telephone on 443-470-3874. A note on the previous week’s attendance sheet is also adequate. A forward planning sheet is available at rehearsals for members to signal if they are unable to sing in a particular concert. It is essential that the conductor has this information in good time to enable him to plan the rehearsal schedule and identify if any additional singers will be invited to substitute for absent members.

REHEARSALS

Rehearsals are held weekly on Tuesdays from 7.30 – 10 PM in the sanctuary of the Perkins Square Baptist Church at 2500 Edmondson Ave, Baltimore, MD 21223. All members are expected to be on time for rehearsals. To be early is to be on time, to be on time is to be late, and to be late is unacceptable.

Please make every effort to attend all rehearsals. Sometimes the conductor will rehearse works for later concerts. Refrain from assuming that the rehearsals prior to a concert will only be for the next concert. Please bring a pencil and eraser to all rehearsals.

MAJOR PERFORMANCES

Generally, major performances are reserved for the weekends. Other performances may be given from time to time. Although the success of these additional events needs strong support from members, attendance at these performances is not compulsory.

MUSIC/OCTAVOS

Members are loaned octavos for rehearsals and performances. Every member will be assigned a number for their scores. The octavos will be numbered and matched with the number given to the ensemble member. You are solely responsible for this music.

Copies that are lost or damaged must be paid for and fines may be imposed for late return. Pencil markings on music are essential but members are asked where possible to erase markings on hire copies and remove any paperclips, before these are returned.

For concert performances, black folders will be provided. Alternatively, music for concerts and tablets can be covered in black paper. This ensures the choir ‘looks’ as well as ‘sounds’ professional.

WOMEN'S CONCERT ATTIRE

– long black ankle length skirt OR ankle length smart black trousers (please no jeans or leggings)

– long sleeved and high necked black top OR

-for more formal affairs, all black choral gown (ankle length)

MEN'S CONCERT ATTIRE

– Black Suit, white button-down collared dress shirt, black socks and shoes, and a solid black tie. A RED tie will be requested for the Christmas Concert.

UNABLE TO MEET EXPECTATIONS SUCCESSFULLY?

In the unlikely event that any member of the choir fails to comply with these expectations, or whose conduct at a rehearsal, concert, or in any other venue representing this ensemble, is deemed by the Board to be unacceptable, the Board reserves the right to ask a member to resign their position as a member of the ensemble.

If you have any queries about these expectations of members, please do not hesitate to speak to the Secretary or another member of the Committee.
